Rose joined Creative New Zealand in 2002 as a music adviser.  Prior to that she enjoyed a career in the education sector, including work with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA), music education advisory work for the Ministry of Education and a broad range of teaching experiences. In her current role as Programmes Manager she manages the team which delivers the contestable funding rounds, special opportunities for artists and the Creative Communities Scheme.

Haniko joined Creative New Zealand in 2002 as Māori Arts Adviser and has more than 20 years experience working in the arts. Prior to Creative New Zealand, he held a number of roles at Te Papa including concept developer, interpreter, and education officer. Raised in the heart of the Urewera, he was privileged to have access to information regarding the stories and history of his tribe. A fluent speaker of Te Reo Māori with a wealth of knowledge on tikanga Māori, he now manages the Māori arts programmes and is based in the Wellington office.

Chris Archer

Chris joined Creative New Zealand in 2009 as Senior Programme Adviser. Previously he worked as national and regional music education adviser, Artist in Schools national facilitator, national curriculum writer, and NCEA (National Certificate of Educational Achievement) standards writer, music examiner and moderator. Chris is a composer and performer and has been involved in music making for more than 30 years. Chris manages the music portfolio, the Creative Communities Scheme (CCS) along with colleague Alan Cathro and also manages Creative New Zealand’s southern office in Christchurch.


 

Anton Carter

Anton joined Creative New Zealand in 1999 and during his time here has held positions as Arts Adviser Pacific Arts and as Strategy Adviser; he currently manages the Pacific Arts and Pan Art form Festivals portfolios. He has been actively involved in contemporary Pacific arts for more than 20 years as an artist and arts manager/producer, reporter and is a founding member of the Pacific Arts Alliance. Anton is based in Creative New Zealand’s Wellington office.


 

Jude Chambers

Jude joined Creative New Zealand in 2005 and was appointed Senior Programme Adviser in 2008. She has more than six years of arts management experience delivering a variety of funding programmes, partnerships and advocacy, primarily focused within the visual arts community. She has previously worked for local government and held a governance position with an international aid agency. Jude manages the Visual Arts portfolio, along with colleague Emma Ward and also manages Creative New Zealand's northern office in Auckland.

 


Helaina Keeley

Helaina joined Creative New Zealand as the Assistant Arts Adviser for Theatre, Dance and Pacific Arts in 2005 and was appointed Senior Programme Adviser in 2008. Helaina graduated from the New Zealand School of Dance in 1989 followed by a 14 year performance career with many of New Zealand's leading dance makers. She has also held a range of arts administration roles and was acknowledged for her contribution to the dance sector on the distinguished Honours Board at the New Zealand School of Dance in 1999. Helaina manages the Theatre and Dance portfolios, along with colleague Michael Daly, and is based in Creative New Zealand's Auckland office.

Felicity Birch

Felicity joined Creative New Zealand in 2004 in the grants and process team before becoming a Programme Adviser in 2008, managing the Inter-arts portfolio and working alongside the artform portfolio holders. She also manages the Arts Board pool of special opportunities (residencies, fellowships and awards). Felicity is based in Creative New Zealand’s Wellington Office.

 


Alan Cathro

Alan joined Creative New Zealand in 2008 as Programme Adviser. He has experience as a gallery curator and art educator, where under contract to the Ministry of Education initiative Learning Experiences Outside The Classroom (LEOTC) he delivered an education programme for schools, providing young people with ‘hands-on’ experience of contemporary art. Alan is based in Creative New Zealand’s Christchurch office. Alan is focused on community arts and is the national coordinator for CCS.

 


Michael Daly

Michael joined Creative New Zealand in 2010 as Programme Adviser. A graduate of Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Creative Industries, Michael went on to work in a dramaturgical capacity in Australia for a variety of companies and as a freelance script assessor and arts trust board member in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Michael supports Helaina Keeley to deliver the Theatre and Dance portfolios and is based in Creative New Zealand’s Wellington office.



Catriona Ferguson

Catriona joined Creative New Zealand in late 2009. She has previously worked as a freelance writer, reviewer and editor and before that worked in the area of literature programming and funding in the United Kingdom. Catriona manages the Literature portfolio while Amy Mansfield is on maternity leave. Catriona is based in Creative New Zealand’s Auckland office.

Emma joined Creative New Zealand in 2005 and was appointed Programme Adviser in 2008. She manages the Craft/Object portfolio and supports Jude Chambers to deliver the Visual Arts portfolio. She has an Honours degree in Art History from the University of Canterbury. Emma is based in Creative New Zealand’s Auckland office.

Strategy Advisers

John McDavitt

John joined Creative New Zealand in 2000. A graduate of the New Zealand Drama School he went on to work as a professional actor with various New Zealand theatre companies. He was President of New Zealand Actors Equity from 1983-85 before studying Arts Management at the University of South Australia in 1988. During the 1990s he was Director of Playmarket. John has worked for Creative New Zealand in various roles including: establishing partnerships with MoRST (Ministry of Research, Science and Technology) and the Department of Conservation. He was Theatre and Dance Adviser before moving to his current role as Strategy Adviser where he is involved in the review of recurrently funded organisations (RFOs) and helped develop Creative New Zealand’s distribution strategy. In his current role John advises on the development of sector wide, pan-art form strategies and policies. John is based in Creative New Zealand’s Wellington office.

 

Dr Calvin Scott

Calvin joined Creative New Zealand in February 2008 after living overseas for a number of years. He holds a Masters of Public Policy from Victoria University and a PhD from the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich, Germany. Calvin’s main focus is on research, policy and evaluation. He has contributed to Creative New Zealand’s review of the Creative Communities Scheme, the reviews of contestable and recurrent funding as well as the development of a monitoring and evaluation framework for contestable funding. He is currently involved in the development of policy relating to young people and the arts, community arts and cultural diversity. Outside work Calvin leads an active musical life as an oboist and pianist and also has a keen interest in literary translation. Calvin is based in Creative New Zealand’s Wellington Office.
