Taki Rua Productions launches new rural tour

Taki Rua Productions performance of Strange Resting Places will be on tour from 6 March as part of Taki Rua's 25th anniversary celebrations. Proudly supported by Transpower New Zealand, the rural tour will allow those in smaller towns throughout the country to experience this gem of New Zealand theatre.

The Transpower Rural Tour of Strange Resting Places will take place at more community-based venues including marae, schools and theatres. With the first performance in Otaki on 6 March, the crew will weave their way throughout the country and visit: Otaki, Kerikeri, Kaikohe, Kaitaia, Taipa, Russell, Whangarei, Palmerston North, Hamilton, Taupo, Taranaki and Otago.

The one-hour show promises to be a one-of-its-kind intimate experience. Filled with Italian and Māori songs and packed with comedy, the story unfolds in Māori, Italian and English which shines a light on the complex emotional bonds of New Zealand's wartime history.

"From its inception at the Depot Theatre in 1983, Taki Rua has gone on to make Aotearoa its stage and in 2008 celebrates 25 years of Māori theatre. Transpower's Rural Tour of Strange Resting Places is another performance that we can offer to local communities to experience and enjoy," James Ashcroft, director of Taki Rua.

"On many occasions, these types of outstanding performances are only available in New Zealand's larger centres. We are pleased that we are able to help provide the opportunity for some of those smaller communities in which we operate, to enjoy such a show stopping performance by some leading New Zealand talent." Transpower's Communications Manager Rebecca Wilson.

Paolo and Rob were the winners of the 2007 Chapman Tripp Theatre Award for Best New Writers, secured a nomination for Most Outstanding Production of the Year and in 2007 had sell-out seasons in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Taranaki, Nelson and Tauranga.

Taki Rua is a Creative New Zealand recurrently funded organization.
