Creative New Zealand maintains a register of people nominated to assess funding applications to Creative New Zealand.

Applications for project funding to the Arts Board and Te Waka Toi are assessed by committees, made up of five practitioners with the relevant expertise and up to two board members. The assessment committees should reflect, where possible, a balance of gender, ethnicity, geographic spread and genre/artform expertise.

Committee members are expected to assess all applications and then attend a meeting to make recommendations to the Arts Board or Te Waka Toi. The term of members is generally two years (four project funding rounds). Rotation of committee members ensures fresh perspectives while maintaining continuity.

At least two external assessors, independent of a committee, assess applications to the Pacific Arts Committee and for Annual or Multi-Year Funding.

The boards and the Pacific Arts Committee make the final decisions, based on the committees' or external assessors' recommendations and Creative New Zealands strategic priorities.

All assessors are subject to Creative New Zealand's confidentiality and conflict of interest code of practice. In other words, they cannot discuss applications with anyone outside Creative New Zealand. Assessors cannot apply directly for funding or benefit directly from an application within the same funding round they are assessing.

Please note that you must have the nominee's permission before you submit his/her name.

There is no guarantee that the person you nominate will become an assessor but the names will go forward for selection as the vacancies arise.
