This is a residency exchange with The Evergreen State College, located in Olympia, Washington, North America. In 2012 preference will be given to an artist with demonstrated excellence in visual arts, such as carving, fibre arts, printmaking or painting.

This residency is an exchange agreement between Creative New Zealand through Te Waka Toi, and the Longhouse Education and Cultural Centre.

As well as having the opportunity to undertake a project of his/her choosing, the artist-in-residence will work with emerging and established Native American artists through the Longhouse’s artist-in-residence programme at Evergreen State College, in Olympia, Washington, North America.

The residency is for approximately 6 weeks at an agreed upon time between 01 May and 30 June 2012.

Details of offer

The selected artist will be supported by Creative New Zealand through:

  • an economy class return airfare (New Zealand-Washington-New Zealand)
  • a weekly stipend of $1000NZD per week (not exceeding $8000)
  • reimbursement for excess luggage costs of up to $1000NZD.

Longhouse Education and Cultural Centre will provide:

  • living quarters
  • a vehicle
  • an art supplies budget
  • workshop space on campus for the duration of the residency.
