The two Te Waka Toi scholarships are open to Māori who are studying the arts beyond high school, college or kura kaupapa level. They can be studying on a marae or other formal tertiary institution such as an accredited university, whare wānanga or polytechnic.

Eligibility

The specific focus areas for Ngā Karahipi a Te Waka Toi are:

  • Māori arts (visual, performing, language, literature)
  • Māori arts related area (curation, arts writing; technical or conservational). 

Scholarships are based on artistic, cultural and academic merit, involvement with iwi/marae and leadership qualities.

Applicants can be studying the arts on a marae or other formal tertiary institution such as an accredited university, whare wānanga or polytechnic.

Previous winners are not eligible to reapply.
