This residency is available for an experienced writer to work on an approved project for a period of approximately nine to eleven months in Berlin, Germany.The residency covers travel to and accommodation in Berlin, a monthly stipend and incidentals.
This residency is offerred every two years and is not open for applications. It will be offered again in 2013.
This residency is available for an experienced writer to work on an approved project for a period of approximately nine months. It provides NZ$3000 for travel to Berlin, paid rental accommodation, a stipend of NZ$3000 per month and incidental travel allowance.
A one bedroom apartment is also provided by Creative New Zealand in the Friedrichshain district in former East Berlin. Friedrichshain has a reputation as a lively and dynamic district and the apartment is close to the last standing section of the Berlin wall. The apartment can accommodate a partner but is not suitable for additional family members.
Previous recipients of the residency include: Sarah Quigley; Tina Shaw; Kapka Kassabova; Philip Temple; Tim Corballis, Lloyd Jones and James McNeish.
The primary aim of the residency is for the successful applicant to work on an approved project while in a new environment. On returning, the successful applicant will be expected to have completed, or substantially completed, a body of writing.
There are ambassadorial aspects to the residency as the successful applicant will be representing New Zealand. As such, applicants must also demonstrate a willingness to engage with overseas contacts and the media. Previous involvement in literary festivals, tours, seminars or panels would be an advantage.
