New Zealanders and the arts

Findings from independent research by Colmar Brunton into New Zealanders’ attitudes to, attendance at and participation in the arts in 2017.

New Zealanders and the arts research provides a benchmark for New Zealanders engagement with the arts over time. This research has been done every three years since 2005. A change to the online questionnaire this year means we can show you regional results for the first time.

As New Zealanders we continue to be engaged with the arts. We recognise the benefits of the arts for social inclusion, personal well-being and for helping our young people grow in confidence.

We want to stimulate debate. And we want to provide arts communities throughout the country with information they can use to advocate for the value of the arts.
