This March Creative New Zealand invites artists, arts organisations and their communities to join a series of conversations taking place across the country to co-develop pathways to better serve the arts in Aotearoa.

Stephen Wainwright, Creative New Zealand’s Chief Executive, says it’s important that arts communities have a direct say about the future of arts development.

“Artists, arts organisations and communities across Aotearoa New Zealand have let us know we need to do things differently here at Creative New Zealand. We agree.”

“We have an important role to play in supporting artists to tell their stories and the stories of others to ensure that arts, culture and creativity can flourish in communities throughout the whole of Aotearoa.”

During March Creative New Zealand is creating spaces around the country for arts communities to come together to share ideas to build future pathways to develop the arts long-term in Aotearoa New Zealand. The sessions will be run as open conversations and hosted by independent conveners. There will also be options to connect with online sessions - online options will be available in March and will be advertised when those dates and times have been confirmed.

To create the best conditions for arts, culture and creativity to thrive Creative New Zealand needs to make long-term changes to its work by placing artists and their communities at the centre of decisions and by providing artists, arts organisations and their communities with greater certainty than they currently have.

Gretchen La Roche, Creative New Zealand's Senior Manager Arts Development Services says Creative New Zealand believes that artists should be able to have big dreams and be able to realise them.

“We realise this has the potential to be a significant change in the way Creative New Zealand works with artists and communities and that this journey will take time.  We’re up for the challenge and hope the sector will join us.”
