New fund supports creating digital artwork for global audiences

Artists and arts organisations can now apply to a new fund to research a concept or create new digital artwork for an international context.

The new Digital Global New Work Fund 2022 supports researching, developing and/or creating new artwork in the digital space for global audiences.

Artists and arts organisations can apply to one of two strands of this fund – one for Research and one for New Work. The Research strand (between $5,000 to $10,000) supports researching and developing a concept with the intention that it will lead to a global presentation. The New Work strand (between $5,000 - $150,000) supports the creation of new digital artwork for a global audience.

“Digital technologies are fundamentally changing how some artists create and present work and how audiences experience art. We recognise this to be an exciting opportunity for us to share our stories with international audiences,” says Jude Chambers, Manager, International Services and Initiatives.

“This fund has been designed to activate more collaboration between the arts and other creative industries here and offshore, and to generate a range of creative projects that are presented in ‘traditional’ arts venues or experienced via digital mediums, extending the reach to new and diverse audiences.”

Priority will be given to:

  • artists or arts organisations for whom digital or emerging technologies are integral to their practice
  • projects that foster experimentation and innovation in the development, creation, distribution, or experience of digital artwork
  • projects where the international presenter, digital platform or collaborator is investing financially in the development or presentation of the digital artwork
  • projects that demonstrate the potential to develop new and ongoing international audiences or relationships.

You can apply for one strand only. Before applying, you need to first contact Creative New Zealand to confirm your eligibility. This will also ensure you have access to the application portal when you’re ready to submit your application. Please contact us to kōrero about your project idea. The fund closes Friday 6 May, 1pm
