Nui te Kōrero is Creative New Zealand’s annual arts leadership conference. It’s where managers, leaders, producers, practitioners, marketers and governors working in the arts gather for a national conversation about the big issues of the day.
UPDATE - 6 July 2022 - Nui te Kōrero 2023
Nui te Kōrero is Creative New Zealand’s arts leadership conference. It’s where arts organisations, artists and practitioners working in the arts gather for a national conversation about the changing needs of Aotearoa and its people and how to build resilience for the future. Guided by Te Ao Māori values and perspectives, this biennial hui focuses on opportunities and strategic challenges today and in the future.
Our next hui will take place in October 2023 in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington. Venue and details to be announced in early 2023.
Here’s what participants said about our 2021 hui:
“It was a great launching off point to discuss Te Tiriti and Māori sovereignty in the arts…. I now see that the conversation is a priority and need in the arts.”
“Meitaki ma’ata, fakaue lahi, fa’afetai tele lava and many more thanks for making NTK so successful and enjoyable and thought provoking. You had a great recipe, the right chefs and even though you were cooking in a new kitchen it was a sumptuous feast!”
“What an enriching programme for all of us with loads of whakaaro to continue examining.”
UPDATE 24 JUNE 2021 - we're going digital
He tau hou, He ara hou kia haumaru ai tātou
We have a new path to ensure everyone remains safe
Due to the rise to alert level 2 in Wellington, Nui te Kōrero is going digital!
What this means is that we’re switching to a digital version of the programme for our two-day annual arts sector conference on Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 June.
Buy a Nui te Kōrero Digital Ticket
Since we’re no longer limited for (physical) capacity for Nui te Kōrero, we can offer this experience to more people in the arts sector – we’re welcoming registrations from artists, arts practitioners and arts organisations.
We’re offering artists, arts practitioners and arts organisations a Nui te Kōrero Digital Ticket for $150 + GST.
Register for a Nui te Kōrero Digital Ticket
This digital ticket will give you access to both days of the conference via your desktop and devices.
If you choose to register for a Nui te Kōrero Digital Ticket, we’ll send you instructions on how to download and access the online event through the ACE Event App, which is available via desktop and devices.
Here's the digital programme

We've got eight sessions you can attend, as well as the opening keynote panel and three keynote presentations. Sessions will run consecutively one after the other (as opposed to simultaneously), so you’ll have the opportunity to tune into them all should you wish.
We intend to record sessions to share with Nui te Kōrero attendees later, so there’s no pressure for you to catch every session live. You can also come and go as you need to manage that Zoom fatigue.
Where else can I access Nui te Kōrero content?
If you’d prefer not to register for the two-day event, we’re livestreaming our opening speeches, keynote panel and keynote presentations through our Creative New Zealand Facebook page and YouTube channel at no cost – so you’ll still be able to access these speeches.
What do if you've already registered for Nui te Kōrero
We know you’ll share our disappointment at not being able to come together kanohi ki te kanohi, but we need to put the safety and wellbeing of everyone first, while also honouring the time commitment you’ve made to be a part of this special kaupapa.
If you’ve registered for Nui te Kōrero you’ll have received email instructions on how to download the ACE Event app for Nui te Kōrero to join virutally.
If you're a Board Chair, that gathering is now postponed to a later date. In the meantime, all Board Chairs are encouraged to join Nui te Kōrero virtually (at no extra cost) next Monday and Tuesday using the log in details that have been emailed through.
Please refer to your email on how to download the apps to both your desktop and devices.
If you have any questions or require assistance with downloading either versions of the app, please email us on nuitekorero@auaha.co.nz or phone Beckie on 04 910 5473.
We welcome any pātai (questions) you might have as we realise time is of the essence. Please email us on nuitekorero@auaha.co.nz.
We look forward to you joining us online!

About Nui te Kōrero 2021
This year’s theme is Leadership for Transformation/Toi Huarewa. Specifically, we’ll be looking at leadership within a Mātauranga Māori framework, drawing on the whakatauki: Ka mua, ka muri; walking backwards into the future – the idea that we should look to the past to inform our way forward.
The theme will be explored through a combination of keynotes and breakout sessions which will focus on:
- Mātauranga Māori
- Leadership from a Te Ao Māori space
- Understanding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles
- Partnering with Māori
- Arts practice development
- Hauora (wellbeing)
- Sector Leadership
- Transformational leadership and adaptation in a COVID-19 environment
- Digital leadership
- Environmental sustainability
