As we move through the Covid-19 pandemic, we remain responsive to the ever-evolving cultural and financial landscape for the arts. We continue to offer support for innovative ways to connect with global colleagues and audiences, through digital and hybrid approaches, as well as re-vitalising and re-invigorating relationships ā-tinana.
Our suite of initiatives, co-designed with our partners here and abroad, will deliver relevant and responsive support to the sector. We will prioritise relationships and initiatives focused on building the sustainability and resilience of our sector as well as strengthening inclusion, access and equity. Working across the art forms we will offer a combination of audience and market development, cultural exchange and capability building.
At the heart of our programme, we continue to weave engagement and exchange with international communities. Where possible, we will take a tuakana/teina approach and seek to support both our Mātanga, the leaders who have developed and maintained our international relationships, as well as new and emerging voices.

Strengthen capability and international engagement
Global Wayfinding Programme
This programme supports artists, practitioners and arts organisations across all art-forms to navigate the shifting tides of the global arts environment. Our aim is to support the strengthening of artists’ and practitioners’ capability, and to provide clear pathways to stay internationally connected.
The Global Wayfinding programme draws on the shared knowledge of domestic and global artists and arts communities. With our partners here and abroad, we’ll offer a suite of opportunities that provide New Zealand artists and practitioners with the knowledge and networks to support their practice and adapt to the evolving arts landscape.
This programme is designed to respond to a dynamic international arts environment. We’ll roll out offerings at different intervals over the financial year, acknowledging that artists and organisations in the sector will want to connect with us and access resources at different stages according to their individual needs.
The programme consists of three strands with a range of offerings in each:
- Knowledge Kete
Access to information, tools and resources for adaptation and innovation.
- Podcasts and webinars with international networks that offer insights to emerging global trends or fresh perspectives to new ways of working.
- Artist Tautoko
Access to tailored advice or coaching to help navigate the changing global arts landscape.
- support for artists and organisations to work with an expert or arts professional of their choice who can provide one-to-one advisory sessions tailored to their needs. The expert or arts professional can come from a different field to the artist and be based in New Zealand or overseas. This is for artists, practitioners, or arts organisations that have a track record of international engagement, including those with an emerging practice that have some international experience. Here are some examples of recently funded Artist Tautoko projects. Please register your interest to schedule a meeting with the International team by email to: international@creativenz.govt.nz

Global Networks Presentation Fund
The Global Networks Presentation Fund sits alongside the work of our International programme by supporting invitations to present work overseas that are the result of one of our initiatives. This fund aims to recognise international networks as well as developing international audiences, collaborations and opportunities for New Zealand artists and companies.
The fund has been adapted to respond to new ways of working in a Covid-19 world and supports international presentations across a variety of artforms that may be in person, digital or a hybrid presentation of work. The fund also supports the ‘adaptation’ of work to respond to a presentation opportunity.
