An ongoing relationship

What does the term "recurrently funded organisation" mean? At Creative New Zealand, we use this term to decribe the professional arts organisations with which we have an ongoing funding, monitoring and working relationship.

We support 36 organisations on a recurrent (i.e. one, two or three-year) basis. These organisations include performing arts organisations, book organisations and galleries. There are also nine service industry organisations.

As well as funding and monitoring these organisations, we offer forums, workshops, professional development scholarships and targeted assistance to help build the capability of professional arts organisations.

Annual funding is designed to help organisations carry out a programme of activities for a twelve-month period. Organisations funded in this way effectively form a contractual relationship with the Arts Board or Te Waka Toi to deliver an integrated programme of activities.

Multi-year funding allows an arts organisation to negotiate a contract with Creative New Zealand at a fixed-dollar level for a two or three-year period. It is designed to help organisations plan and deliver an agreed two or three-year programme of activities in the knowledge that funding from Creative New Zealand is secure for the period of the contract.

Arts organisations cannot apply for recurrent funding unless they have been invited to do so by the Arts Board or Te Waka Toi. To be considered, you need to have:

• a close alignment with Creative New Zealand's strategic priorities
• a proven track record of at least three consecutive years of Creative New Zealand project funding
• a strong governance and management structure.

You must also be able to produce a set of audited annual accounts and demonstrate strong stakeholder support.
