Regional Strengths Maurangi Toi

Since 2000, the Regional Strengths Maurangi Toi programme, jointly funded by Creative New Zealand and the Ministry for Social Development, has supported arts and cultural projects led by regional partnerships.

With the introduction of Creative New Zealand's new Strategic Plan in July 2007, Creative New Zealand and the Ministry for Social Development have been presented with a timely opportunity to re-evaluate how we can make the most effective impact on the arts in New Zealand's regions.

2008 will be the final year of the Regional Strengths Maurangi Toi programme and we will now be taking the opportunity to look at fresh ideas and models on how best to achieve economic and artistic success for the arts in New Zealand's regions.

The Ministry for Social Development will continue to support a range of initiatives in the regions through programmes such as Enterprising Communities. Enterprising Communities grants help community organisations to design and implement projects that will create skills and job opportunities for people who are finding it hard to get work. The Ministry currently funds over ten arts related projects ranging from the development of art centres to the funding of Co-ordinators to assist local artists develop sustainable income streams.

Existing Regional Strengths Maurangi Toi projects will be monitored throughout the wind down period until 1 May 2008.

The Regional Strengths Maurangi Toi programme has now ceased.
