Vector Wellington Orchestra has announced the appointment of its new General Manager, Adán E. Tijerina.

He will take over from Diana Marsh, who has headed the orchestra’s administration for the past two years.

Tijerina says he is looking forward to contributing to the growth of the Capital’s vibrant arts and cultural sector.   “It is an extremely exciting opportunity,” Tijerina says.  “Wellington is a city that punches well above its weight, much more so than other cities where I’ve lived. Here the Arts are regarded and celebrated as a public good.  I look forward to fostering this even further through the efforts of the Orchestra.

Of Mexican heritage, Tijerina hails from the Pacific Northwest of the United States where his early experience as a legal advocate quickly turned him into an impassioned educator serving populations in volatile and challenging environments. Since his arrival in New Zealand, Tijerina has completed postgraduate study in Human Development and Educational Psychology. He has worked as a professional musician, producer of cultural events, and as Director of one of the country’s most successful small brands, Matterhorn. His most recent appointment was Manager of the OurSpace experience at Te Papa Tongarewa.

Much of Tijerina’s time at Te Papa was focused on their Digital Strategy and “new media” business planning; with the addition of those skills he contracted to several clients as a PRINCE2-qualified Project Manager and Communications consultant.

He has also developed an interdisciplinary Service Design agency, Lobo NZ, providing local businesses and artists with first-rate project, event, business and brand management services.  Lobo’s aim is to ensure alignment of desired brand and user experiences and offer insights that allow businesses to stay true to their core, remain relevant to clientele, and cultivate a culture of efficiency and excellence.

Tijerina has somehow found time to remain involved in local arts and culture. He sits as a founding board member on the Latin-American New Zealand Art Trust (LANZART) and as Director of local independent record label, ECONOMY Records.

A keen concertgoer, Tijerina has followed the VWO’s progress with interest and says he looks forward to being a part of such an esteemed foundation.  “I have always been drawn to Marc Taddei’s diverse programming approach and willingness to re-examine and question the ordinary.  He obviously knows and respects his audience and works tirelessly to not only meet, but exceed, their expectations.”
