New Workshops Support Waikato Artists to Succeed
8 Aug 2016
Over the coming year, hundreds of artists throughout the Waikato region will participate in up-skilling workshops delivered by Creative Waikato thanks to Regional Arts Pilot funding from Creative New Zealand.
“The Artillery workshops are designed to strengthen the capabilities of artists and arts organisations in areas that are beneficial to their success. We went out and asked our arts community what areas they needed support in, and in turn have designed a programme responding to those needs.” Sarah Nathan, CEO Creative Waikato.
The workshops will be delivered at no cost to artists and focus on areas such as arts promotion, creative project planning, sustainable funding, strategic planning and governance. There will also be modules available on building audiences, touring creative work and bringing touring works to your community. Creative Waikato will deliver the workshop series across towns in the wider district including Taupo, Raglan, Thames, Te Awamutu, Huntly, Te Aroha,Putururu and Te Kuiti.
Those attending will learn the essentials to succeed and the sessions are designed to be effective regardless of the art form or project focus. The workshops are delivered as a combination of presentations, interactive activities that support learning as well as invaluable shared discussion and networking.
Nathan says, “The stronger, and more productive the arts sector is in the Waikato, the stronger our communities become. We are very grateful to Creative New Zealand for supporting this initiative”.
