The winners were announced at a special dinner held at the 2011 Museums Australia National Conference in Perth on Tuesday night the15th November.
The Gallery won the Calendar of Events & Information Brochure category for its quarterly LOG. The second award for the night was in the Exhibition Catalogue (Major) category for the book Wayne Barrar: An Expanding Subterra. Both were designed by Dunedin Public Art Gallery Graphic Designer Karina McLeod.
Gallery Director Elizabeth Caldwell commented: "The whole team is tremendously excited about winning these two awards, especially as this is the second consecutive year that our work in this field has been recognised by this prestigious organisation and is testimony to the consistency of our efforts."
Artist Wayne Barrar commented: "This award recognises the intensive effort and creative skill of a fantastic team at the DPAG. With strong editorial input, expert writing, and terrific design, the book is a great production which has been able to extend the audience and concept of the associated photographic exhibition. It is great to see this recognised in this Australasian context."
Wayne Barrar: An Expanding Subterra was partially funded by Creative New Zealand’s 2009 Arts and Sector investments Fund. Dunedin Public Art Gallery is funded currently under the Arts Development Investment (Toi Uru Kahikatea) programme.
