Change of venue for Judy Millar's exhibition at the Venice Biennale
Two new potential venues are being explored for New Zealand artist Judy Millar's exhibition at the 2009 Venice Biennale.
This is in response to advice from the local diocese that Sant' Antonin church may not be restored in time for the Biennale's opening on 3 June 2009.
Judy Millar said that she is enthusiastic about the opportunities the two new venues offer, as her exhibition was designed to be flexible to fit with different spaces.
"This is just another step in the process and provides some exciting possibilities for me to adapt the show in interesting ways."
Creative New Zealand is being assisted by the Venice authorities and representatives of the Catholic diocese of Venice who have already offered two alternative venues. One under consideration is the La Maddalena church in which New Zealand artist Michael Stephenson's TREKKA was exhibited at the 2003 Venice Biennale. Another is the Chiesa di San Fantin near St Mark's square.
Sculptor Francis Upritchard's is also representing New Zealand at the Biennale. Her work will be exhibited in Fondazione Claudio Buziol within Palazzo Mangilli-Valmarana. Close to the Rialto Bridge her second floor grand palazzo exhibition rooms look directly out at the Grand Canal.
Creative New Zealand will advise of any progress with venue discussions as they happen.
