Creative New Zealand's funding programmes are managed by our three funding bodies:
The Arts Board supports arts practitioners across all cultures and artforms. Any individual, organisation or group can apply for funding for clearly defined, one-off projects. However, there is a lot of competition for a limited amount of money and your project is unlikely to be funded if you have little or no record of achievement in your artform/area of expertise.
Te Waka Toi, the Māori arts board, supports the arts of Māori. Individuals, groups and organisations can apply for funding for clearly defined, one-off projects.
To apply under Te Waka Toi's funding programmes, the following "for Māori by Māori" criteria must be met:
Please note: Māori arts practitioners, groups and organisations meeting the criteria above may apply to either the Arts Board or Te Waka Toi. It's your choice. Use the flow chart in Step 3 to help you decide.
The Pacific Arts Committee supports the Pacific Islands arts of New Zealand. Individuals, groups and organisations can apply for funding for projects that meet the aims of the Pacific Arts Committee funding programmes.
Projects funded by the Pacific Arts Committee must:
Please note: applicants of Pacific Islands descent may apply to either the Pacific Arts Committee or the Arts Board. It's your choice. Use the flow chart in Step 3 to help you decide.
Arts practitioners are people whose work focuses on the creation and/or distribution of the arts: e.g. artists, arts managers and administrators, curators, arts technicians.
Artform groupings are broad categories of the arts that encompass related artistic genres: e.g. visual arts includes a range of genres such as installation, sculpture and painting.
