Frequently Asked Questions about funding

Answers to most questions can be found in the funding guides and application forms, but here’s some of the most common questions we get asked about funding.

Preparing your application

Where do I find the application forms?
You can download applications forms and guides from this website. The application form is a PDF that you type your information into, then print and send in. Go to forms and guides.

Can I arrange an appointment to meet with an adviser?

What's the difference between Arts Grants & Quick Response Grants?
You can apply for more money from Arts Grants, but the response time for Quick Response Grants is shorter. More about the differences here.

Can I apply to Creative New Zealand and the Creative Communities Scheme (CCS) for the same project?
No, the project cannot receive funding from CCS or other Creative New Zealand programmes for the same period.

I have already begun my project so am I ineligible?
Your project, or the stage of it you are seeking funding for, must not start before the date on which we notify all applicants about the result of their application

How many CDs, DVDs do I need to send in?
For Arts Grants, Toi Ake, and Tohunga/Tukunga - 3 copies. For Quick Response Grants - 1 copy.

How many letters of support do I need to provide with my application.
Many applicants provide three. Ensure that the letters are up-to-date and relevant. Also, it’s often a good idea to include a letter from someone who is not directly involved with the project so an unbiased and objective opinion is included.
Do I have to use the budget template?
No, you can use your own document if you wish as long as it covers everything we need to know. The budget template is there to help guide you towards presenting a budget that includes all we need to assess your project

Results

Can you tell me why I got declined?
Yes, we want to give you feedback. Please contact the relevant Arts Adviser to discuss your declined application. Every round some worthwhile projects do miss out on grants because there are not enough funds available. To increase the likelihood we’ll fund your application it needs to be as strong as possible. See common problems with applications.

If I get declined, can I apply again for the same project?
If we have previously turned down an application from you for this same project, you can apply again only if a Creative New Zealand Arts Adviser has given you permission to do this (reapplying will count as one of your four applications per year)

When do I find out if my application has been successful or not?

  • For Quick Response Grants successful applicants will be listed on Who got funded section of the website six weeks after the closing date.
  • For Arts Grants we will notify you by mail of our decision 12 weeks after the closing date.
  • For other grants or opportunities this information will be available with the application.
Can you email me the results of my application?
No, we don’t offer this service.

Can I get my application results over the phone?
No, we don’t offer this service.
